Second, do some market research to see if there is a boxed software that meets your needs. The price of a boxed software can be orders of magnitude cheaper than a custom development. However, you should take into account that pre-made software is almost certainly not built to your exact needs, so if you choose one, you will have to make compromises regarding the operation of the system.
Make a comparison!
If you decide on custom development, the next step is to compare different offers. To do this, you should do the following at a minimum:
- Perform a preliminary calculation regarding the return on investment of the new system!
- Perform a security and risk analysis in the following areas:

- data access security (user access security)
- GDPR and other legal compliance
- Version tracking
- Current and future support options

Attention! Anyone can say nice things. Ask for references and see how many years the given development company has been on the market! A presence of at least 5 years can already mean sufficient reliability.
